Hair salon root touch up aftercare: The Crown Refresh (and how to keep it feeling clean)
By Dash Hair & Company, LLC | July 1, 2026
Loganville, GA | The Crown Refresh (55 minutes, $100)

You just spent 55 minutes letting us reset your scalp with an herbal foot soak, a scalp detox, our signature water ring experience, a neck massage, and a blow-dry. The biggest rule now is simple: wait at least 48 hours before washing your hair or doing anything that makes you sweat heavily. In Loganville heat and humidity, that no-sweat window matters even more because sweat breaks down those fresh treatment oils fast.
Keep reading if you want the easy, real-life version of aftercare. No fluff. Just what to do today, what to avoid this week, and when we want you to reach out so we can keep your result on track.
The first 24 to 48 hours after The Crown Refresh: don’t undo the scalp detox
Quick rule: No washing, no heavy sweating, and no tight hats or helmets for the first 24 to 48 hours.
Right after your head spa, your scalp is clean, calm, and freshly moisturized. The goal for the next two days is to keep your scalp balanced so you don’t trigger irritation or bring buildup right back.
Do this
- Keep your scalp dry. If you shower, clip hair up and avoid steam directly on your scalp.
- If you get warm easily, use cooling strategies instead of a workout: a fan, cool (not icy) compress at the back of the neck, and lightweight clothing.
- Keep hands off your scalp. If you feel a spot, don’t scratch. Light pressure is fine, but avoid digging nails in.
Avoid this
- Hard workouts, hot yoga, saunas, or anything that leaves sweat sitting on your scalp.
- Heat styling for 48 to 72 hours if you can. If you have to, keep it low heat and don’t press a hot tool against the scalp line.
- Heavy hats, tight headbands, and anything that traps heat and moisture at the scalp.
And if you have an outdoor event planned in downtown Loganville or you’re headed to a park this weekend, schedule your head spa at least three days before. Sun plus sweat plus heat is a lot in that first window.
Days 3 to 7: keep the scalp calm so your result lasts
Once you’ve passed that first 48 hours, most people want to jump right back into their usual routine. This is where we see the biggest difference in how long the scalp stays comfortable, especially in humid Loganville summers.
If you notice a little flaking
A small amount of flaking can happen as old buildup lifts away. Don’t pick. Don’t scrub. Wash gently, keep your conditioner off the scalp, and use a light leave-on scalp tonic (more on that below). If flaking doesn’t calm down after 5 to 7 days, we want to know so we can guide you.
Swimming and water you can’t control
Avoid chlorinated pools and salt water for 72 hours. If swimming is unavoidable, rinse your scalp with fresh water immediately after and use a barrier product before you get in. That one step can keep you from feeling dry and itchy the next day.
The products we recommend after a head spa: gentle cleanse, light moisture
For 1 to 2 weeks after The Crown Refresh, stick to sulfate-free, pH-balanced shampoo and a lightweight moisturizer for the scalp. Heavy oils and thick butters can feel good for a minute, but they often trap heat and product residue, which is the opposite of what we just cleaned out.
Our simple 3-step week-one routine
- Wash: 1 to 3 times that week, gentle pressure with fingertips, no aggressive scalp scrubbing.
- Condition: mid-lengths to ends only. Keep it off the scalp line.
- Support: a light leave-on scalp tonic, especially if you tend to get tightness or itch after heat and sweating.
Sleep helps too. Use a clean cotton or silk pillowcase and skip rough towel-drying. Just pat, then let your hair air dry when you can.
“My scalp finally felt clean without feeling stripped.”

When to reach out to our Loganville team (and when it’s normal)
Mild sensitivity or a little flaking can be normal right after a scalp reset. Intense itching isn’t. Same with redness that keeps spreading, unusual discharge, or flaking that doesn’t settle after 5 to 7 days.
Please reach out if: you have persistent redness, severe itching, unusual discharge, or flaking that doesn’t improve after 5 to 7 days. We’ll talk through what you’re using and help you get comfortable again.
We’ve been doing this work for 10 years, and the pattern is clear. The people who keep their results the longest are the ones who protect the first 48 hours and keep product choices simple for that first week.
“They explained exactly what to do at home, and it made a big difference.”
